Gary Douglas Garner, 74, of Waltonville, IL, died 12:42 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at his home.  Gary was born March 26, 1942, in Wayne City, Illinois the son of William Monroe Garner and Ruth (Hand) Garner. He married Carol Jean (Wells) on December 22, 1961 at the West Long Prairie Christian Church and she survives in Waltonville. Mr. Garner was a member South Hickory Hill Christian Church. Gary served his country in the United States Air Force from January 3, 1963- June 2, 1967 during the Vietnam War. Gary was a retired farmer and had worked for Continental Tire in Mt. Vernon for 29 years. He volunteered at the Central Christian Church Soup Kitchen. Mr. Garner is survived by his wife Carol Garner of Waltonville; three sons, Kevin Garner and wife Barb of Mt. Vernon, Stacy Garner and wife Angie of Waltonville and Jason Garner and wife Johna of Waltonville; brother, Randy Garner and wife Coletta of Wayne City; seven grandchildren, Leah Windings and husband Danny, Nathanael Garner, Makala Smith and husband Joshua, Elizabeth Garner, Benton Garner, Roe Garner, and Myka Garner and fiancé Tylor McGehee. Gary was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral service for Gary Garner will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Pastor Randy Sells and Chaplain Dan Lovin officiating. Interment will follow at Black Cemetery in rural Waltonville. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 141 of Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 12 noon until service time at the funeral Home.
