(ST. LOUIS, IL) — According to CSX Railroad, the company will be shutting down its line from St. Louis to Vincennes, Indiana that runs just south of U.S. 50 through Clinton, Marion, and Clay Counties. CSX Regional Vice President of Government Affairs Tom Livingston says the company is not abandoning the line, as the railroad corridors are very valuable and difficult to recreate when the demand returns or changes. So at this time they want to preserve that asset. Livingston says if business conditions change or local customers develop, the line could reopen. But for now, government officials throughout the area are receiving notification the railroad crossing signals are being taken out of service.
