(Marion, IL) — Police are saying “watch out” for a new phone scam hitting southern Illinois. The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office says scammers are telling victims they’re behind in their payments to Ameren Illinois, and power will be shut off in two hours unless they make an immediate payment. Ameren Illinois says it doesn’t demand such payments, and officials say just hang up if you get such a call.
