ILLINOIS (WBC/DANA COMM.) — April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month across the nation, and the Illinois State Police is urging drivers to drop their phones and focus on the road. During this month, Sgt. Christopher Watson says the ISP will be on the lookout for the fatal four; DUI, speeding, seat belts, and distracted driving.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, just over 26,000 people died in U.S. crashes involving a distracted driver between 2012 and 2019.
