IRS Scam in Union County

IRS Scam in Union County

An IRS scam has been reported in Union County.

Union County State’s Attorney Tyler Edmonds says someone claiming to be with the IRS has made unsolicited phone calls to county residents saying they owe money to the IRS and will have a warrant issued if they don’t provide payment.

Edmonds reminds you to never give your personal information such as your bank account numbers or Social Security numbers over the phone to unsolicited collars.

The IRS has addressed such scams recently and remind you that it will never call  to demand immediate payment, nor will the agency call about taxes owed without first having mailed you a bill; demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe; require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes – such as a prepaid debit card or ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone or threaten to bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying.
