A 36-year-old Centralia man was sentenced Tuesday in Marion County Court to four years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for possession of methamphetamine and felony retail theft.
Matthew Hall pleaded guilty to both in August to both charges against him. In his Statement of Allocution Tuesday he asked Judge Mark Stedelin to not to sentence him to prison but to instead give him probation and drug treatment.
Hall argued that he had never been jailed on an offense until he started using meth and attempted to self-medicate with the drug. He begged the judge for help with his addiction.
Stedelin instead sentenced Hall to four years each on both counts to be served concurrently and recommend him for substance abuse treatment in jail.
