(KELL, IL) — Storms early Sunday morning are being blamed for a crash on Route 37 that resulted in a 22-year-old Kell woman being airlifted from the scene to a St. Louis area hospital for treatment of injuries she suffered. According to Illinois State Police, just before 6 a.m. Sunday, Morgan Hawkins was northbound on Route 37 when she struck the large tree in the roadway, then ran off the road, and hit another tree. Kell firefighters had to extricate Hawkins from the vehicle. She was airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital for treatment of injuries. Kell Fire Chief Lonnie McDaneld says the driver of a second vehicle also struck the fallen tree but after seeing Hawkins vehicle, swerved and crashed into a power pole. That driver was uninjured.
