(CENTRALIA, IL) — Centralia City Firefighters responded early Saturday morning to a fire at the Library Apartments that left two units damaged. According to firefighters, the fire is believed to have been started when the occupant of one unit used a stove burner to light a cigarette but failed to turn the burner off. The burner subsequently set a pan of food left on the stove on fire. Actual fire damage was contained to that kitchen, but the rest of the apartment suffered smoke and water damage, as did the second floor apartment beneath it. Total damage was placed at $5,000.
