(BENTON, IL) — City leaders in Benton are assuring residents that no city services will be eliminated or reduced since state legislators recently passed a budget that calls for a 10 percent state reduction from the Local Government Distribution Fund – a fund the state uses to distribute income taxes locally. It’s estimated that Benton will lose $80-to-$90,000 in funding from the state. That’s according to the Benton News. The city says the loss of revenue could impact some services and reduce the number of festival days and hours. But as of right now, nothing is being discussed and the city will keep an eye on its finances to ensure services are provided. Officials say as long as the state sends out money on a timely basis, the city should not face a financial crisis.
