(MT. VERNON, IL) — Two people were involved in a single-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in Jefferson County. Illinois State Police say around 3:40, 20-year-old Natashia Dyer of Opdyke was going north in the left lane on I-57 near milepost 88 when her car drifted off the roadway to the left into the grass median. Dyer overcorrected her steering to the right causing her car to go across both lanes of northbound I-57 and off the right side of the interstate. The vehicle struck a tree causing one of her passengers, 23-year-old Timothy Dotson-Napier of Mt. Vernon, to be ejected through a window in the back seat where he was sitting. Dotson-Napier was taken to St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon and later airlifted to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville with major injuries. Dyer and her front-seat passenger, 20-year-old Travis Trotter of Opdyke, were not injured. Dyer was cited for improper lane usage and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Illinois State Police are continuing to investigate this accident.
