MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (AP) — Civil War grave markers in a southern Illinois cemetery will be refurbished thanks to $6,000 from the Murphysboro City Council. The (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan reports that the money will be used to repair and restore broken and faded Civil War gravestones at Murphysboro’s City Cemetery. The cemetery has about 90 cement posts marking Civil War veterans’ graves. John A. Logan Museum director Mike Jones requested the money. He says cemetery representatives will work with a cemetery restorationist from Monticello on the project.
