(OLNEY, IL) — A hearing was held Thursday for a 53-year-old Olney man charged with the murder and sexual assault of an 8-year-old girl, with the court finding a bona fide doubt has been raised as to the defendant’s mental fitness to stand trial. Glenn R. Ramey is being held in the Richland County jail with bail set at $10 million on charges of first-degree murder and predatory criminal sexual assault in connection with the November death of Sabrina Stauffenberg. According to court records, Ramey’s attorney filed an application with the court last week for a determination of his client’s competency. In his application, the attorney admitted a confidential psychological evaluation conducted on Ramey in 2012 when he was charged with felony theft in Crawford County. The state ultimately chose not to pursue that theft charge against Ramey. But in court Thursday it was agreed Ramey will be examined by Dr. Jerry Boyd and that a sealed copy of the 2012 evaluation by Jack Cole, PH.D., be provided to Richland County Correctional Chief Jerry Doan. The preliminary hearing scheduled for Thursday was vacated, and a status hearing was set for January 27, in Richland County court. Sabrina was found dead behind a building on the south side of Olney after being reported missing November 23rd. Through the collaboration of at least 10 agencies in the Southern Illinois Child Death Task Force, Ramey was arrested on November 27th.
