(CARBONDALE, IL) — We now know the name of the SIU student killed in a house fire last week in Carbondale. Carbondale Police say its 20-year-old Alexander Kierstead of Aurora, Illinois. Police along with Carbondale firefighters responded to a report of a house fire located in the 700 block of West Freeman Street shortly before 5 a.m. on Nov. 23. When they arrived, the house was heavily engulfed by fire. While doing a primary search of the home, firefighters located Kierstead who was dead. He lived in the home and was the only person inside it when the fire happened. While the investigation remains active and ongoing, at this time there is nothing to suggest foul play is involved. An autopsy was conducted on Friday and again, the investigation continues.
