(MT. VERNON, IL) — Mt. Vernon Police arrested an area man in connection with a weekend stabbing. With the aid of Jefferson County State’s Attorney Doug Hoffman, detectives applied for a search warrant for the suspect’s residence, which was approved by The Honorable Judge Jo Beth Weber. Officers and detectives served the search warrant and made contact with the suspect, 26 year old Joseph A Dotson, of Mt. Vernon, and took him into custody at 11:50 a.m. Saturday. Dotson has been charged with Aggravated Battery – Great Bodily Harm and is incarcerated in the Jefferson County Justice Center with bond to be set in connection to a stabbing that took place in the parking lot of an apartment building located on North 42nd Street in Mt. Vernon in the early morning hours Saturday. The victim was taken to the emergency room at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, where he continues to recover from his injuries. Officers determined the victim had been stabbed. Mt. Vernon Police Department Detectives and a Mt. Vernon Police Crime Scene Technician were called in to assist with the investigation.
