(MT. VERNON, IL) — The folks of Jefferson County have spoken, but it was the highly populated…and Democratic…counties of the state, that spoke loudest on Election Day.  For the Presidential race, The Republican ticket of Donald Trump and Mike Pence took 69% of the vote in the county. Trump would win the presidency, but his opponent Hillary Clinton won Illinois by approximately 800,000 votes.  Jefferson County voted for Republican Incumbent Mark Kirk for U.S. Senator over Democratic challenger Tammy Duckworth, who was projected early in the evening for a big victory, also winning by nearly 800,000 votes.  In the comptroller’s race, Leslie Munger carried the county nearly 2 to 1, but it was Susana Mendoza unseating the incumbent.  More locally, Republican nominees were aided by their numbers in Jefferson for wins. Mike Bost won for the 12th Congressional DIstrict Representative, Paul Schimpf won 58th Legslative District State Senator, and Terri Bryant won 115th District Representative, all in nearly a 2 to 1 margin.
