(MT. VERNON, IL) — Halloween started off busy for Mt. Vernon Police Officers as they responded to a report of an armed robbery which had occurred at the Huck’s Convenience Store, 1801 Benton Road, in Mt Vernon. Initial reports indicate that at 1:10 a.m., a white male armed with a knife robbed the store of cash and merchandise. After patrol officers secured the scene, a Mt. Vernon Police Department Crime Scene Detective also responded to process the scene. Officers at 4:50 a.m. located the offender, 32 year old Robert G. King, at 1508 Shawnee in Mt Vernon. Property believed taken during the armed robbery was also located on King’s person. King was incarcerated in the Jefferson County Justice Center on a charge of Armed Robbery. Bond is to be set. King is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
