(MT. VERNON, IL) — Authorities with the Mt. Vernon Police Department responded to a report of gunshots fired on Saturday. Officers responded to the area of South 12th Street and Jones at approximately 10:21 p.m. and began an investigation that would lead to the arrest of 26 year old Charles Tyler Ford of Mt. Vernon. A Mt. Vernon Police Department Crime Scene Technician and Detective were called in to assist with the investigation. Officers responded to a residence in the 1400 block of South 12th Street and arrested Ford in connection with the shots being fired. Ford was incarcerated in the Jefferson County Justice Center on charges of Reckless Discharge of a Firearm and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon – No Foid Card. Ford’s bond is to be set. Ford is considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
