Doris Irene (Wooden) Davis, 92, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 8:35 p.m., Friday, April 24, 2026, at SSM Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

She was born February 26, 1934, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, the daughter of Val and Dortha (Puckett) Wooden.  On May 2, 1957, she married Maurice Davis, and he preceded her in death on September 9, 2019.

Doris was a graduate of Mt. Vernon Township High School and attended Lincoln Bible Institute.    She loved sewing, cooking, baking, gardening, and feeding people, and she opened her home to many, from foreign exchange students to visiting preachers, sharing her hospitality with all who arrived.  She served as a Sunday school teacher, a 4-H leader, and was a skilled seamstress.  She attended Mt. Vernon Church of Christ for several years.

She is survived by her children, Marilyn Davis of Mt. Vernon, Nancy Voyda and husband Tim of Waterloo, Illinois, Linda Kirkpatrick and husband Billy of Mt. Vernon, John Davis and wife JoAnne of Mt. Vernon, Susan Guthrie and husband Shannon of Opdyke; grandchildren, Jessica Stumpf and husband Brian of Valmeyer, Illinois, Matthew Voyda of Maeystown, Illinois, David Voyda and wife Brittney of Columbia, Illinois, Jordan Kirkpatrick and wife Samantha of Mt. Vernon, Bethany Heern and husband Ross of Mulkeytown, Moriah Gentry and husband Josh of Mt. Vernon, Michael Davis of Mt. Vernon, Joseph Davis of Mt. Vernon, Kate Davis of Mt. Vernon, Canaan Guthrie and wife Addyson of Opdyke, Eden Guthrie of Opdyke, and Benjamin Guthrie of Opdyke; fifteen great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry Wooden of Mt. Vernon; sister, Judy Stewart of Flora, Illinois; brother-in-law, Dean Clayton of Lincoln, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Maurice Davis, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah Davis; parents; and sister, Emma Clayton; brother-in-law, Donald (Ruth) Davis; and sister-in-law, Dixie (Bill) Wilson.

Funeral services for Mrs. Davis will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix, with Pastor Josh Gentry and Billy Kirkpatrick officiating.  A private burial will be held later, at South Hickory Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 29, 2026, from 4:30 p.m. until the hour of service, at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to South Hickory Hill Cemetery, and will be accepted at the service, or by mail to the Osborn Funeral Home, P.O.
