Alberta B. “Bertie” Martin, age 88 of Westfield, Illinois, passed away on February 23, 2026, at Casey Health Care Center.  She was born on April 5, 1937, and lived a life marked by kindness, quiet strength, and a fiery spirit that brought energy and determination to everything she did.

Bertie was known for her warm heart and the welcoming home she created for others.  Earlier in life, she was married to Kenneth Krutsinger, and to this union two daughters were born.

She is survived by her husband, Dean Martin of Westfield, Illinois; her daughters, Teresa (Rick) Hanks and Kim (Rob) Brimberry, both of Kinmundy, Illinois; and a sister, Rosie Slater of Salem.  Bertie and Rosie shared a lifelong bond filled with love, support, and deep understanding- one that remained a source of comfort and joy to them both.

Bertie also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Corey (Robyn) Hanks of Richmond, Kentucky, and Christina Hanks of Kinmundy, Illinois; and her special niece, Vicki (Jim) Lane of Kinmundy, Illinois.

Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Ethan Henderson, Bailey Henderson and her significant other Sebastian Cowger, all of Kinmundy; and Landen Hanks and Kaelyn Hanks both of Richmond, Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sherman and Grace (Pickle) Lewis; her brothers, Howard Lewis and Carlon Lewis; her sisters, Delores Parker and Fern Lewis; her former husband, Kenneth Krutsinger; and her beloved and constant companion, her pet pug Henry, who brought her many years of joy.

Funeral services for Alberta B. “Bertie” Martin will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem with Claude Howell officiating.   Burial will follow at Alma Cemetery in Alma, Illinois.  There will be a time of visitation on Wednesday at the funeral home from noon until the time of the service.   Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and will be received at the funeral home.  Online condolences and memories can be left at www.CrouseFH.com.
