Nathan Lee Pigg, 56, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at his home. He was born February 6, 1969 in Mount Vernon to Kenneth Lee Pigg and Cathy Lee (Davis) Caton.
Nathan is survived by his mother, Cathy Caton; aunt, Kathy Wood of Mount Vernon; children, Thomas Pigg and wife, Paola Gonzalez-Pigg of Centreville, Virginia, Kelly Herman and husband, Jackson of Mount Vernon, Devin Pigg of Mount Vernon, Mason Hylton of Lakeland, Florida, Kenley Pigg of Mount Vernon, and Jaxton Pigg of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Josseline Gudiel, Nicholas Pigg-Gonzalez, Memphis Herman, and baby Nathalia Pigg-Gonzalez arriving in March; siblings, Gabe Caton, Michelle Davis, and Lea Mooney; and many other loving family members.
Nathan was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Pigg; brother, Jesse Pigg; infant son, Cylas Pigg; grandparents, Kenneth Wilbur and Vivian Pigg; and granddaughters, Eva and Raelyn Pigg-Gonzalez.
Nathan was the beloved basketball coach and a school board member at Bethel Grade School. He attended Mount Vernon Baptist Temple, where he also volunteered and taught at the school. Nathan was passionate about community work and being an advocate for the city of Mount Vernon. He had served as the animal warden and city inspector. One of Nathan’s greater accomplishments was that he started the city-wide clean-up in town. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, hiking, hunting, and fishing. He also loved to ride his motorcycle with his brothers. Nathan knew no strangers; he was a friend to many. Most of all, Nathan was a family man. He adored his children and grandchildren. He will be missed dearly by his family, friends, students, and the many other lives he touched.
A Visitation will be held Thursday, February 12, 2026 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Bethel Grade School Gymnasium in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, February 13, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon with Pastor Tim Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Memorials may be made in Nathan’s honor to the Pigg Family, in care of Thomas Pigg to benefit Nathan’s younger children, Kenley and Jaxton.
