WHITTINGTON – A Buckner woman died in a fiery two-vehicle crash on Illinois 37 at Ewing Road around 10:30 Tuesday night.

Franklin County Sheriff Kyle Bacon says a semi with trailer was going south on Illinois 37. The semi stopped and prepared to turn east onto Ewing Road.

Prior to making the turn, the semi’s trailer was struck in the back by another vehicle driven by 54-year-old Angela L. Byrley. Her vehicle caught fire.

Two passerby’s who saw the crash were able to get Byrley out of her vehicle. She sustained significant injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants in the semi were not injured.

Abbott AMR and Ewing Northern Fire also responded to the scene.

The crash is being investigated by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit, and the Franklin County Coroner’s Office.
