SALEM –A 66-year-old Salem woman was the victim of a fatal crash Thursday night in Salem.

Illinois State Police have released preliminary reports on the two-vehicle crash that happened around 9 p.m. Thursday night at the intersection of West Main Street and Hotze Road in Salem.

According to crash reports, Nita Mobley was pronounced dead at the scene. Mobley was reportedly attempting to turn left from West Main onto South Hotze Road when an eastbound pickup truck being driven eastbound on West Main by 21-year-old Justin Bullard, of Iuka, struck her car, which subsequently caught fire.

Bullard and his 25-year-old passenger, Austin Back, also of Iuka, were transported to Salem Township Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Salem Fire Department responded to the scene and reported Mobley’s vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters extinguished the flames and helped free Back from Bullard’s truck.

The crash caused the roads to be closed until after 4 a.m. Friday, as responders worked to clear the scene and investigate the crash, which remains under investigation.

Salem Police, Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies, Salem Emergency Management Agency, and United Medical Response were all on the scene in addition to State Police and the Marion County Coroner.
