(EDEN, IL) — Heavy rain and driving too fast for conditions led to a two-vehicle crash that killed one person in Randolph County Monday. Illinois State Police say just after 4, a car driven by 19-year-old Kevin J. Clover of Du Quoin was going north on Eden Road at Pearce Lane as another car driven by 25-year-old Cale L. Wine of Coulterville was going south on Eden Road approaching Pearce Lane. Clover lost control of his car and began spinning on Eden Road into the path of Wine. Wine struck Clover’s passenger side head on. A passenger in Clover’s car was fatally injured. The passenger’s name is not being released until family members are notified. Clover and Wine received serious, life threatening injuries. All three were taken by ambulance to Sparta Hospital. Clover and Wine were then airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital. They were all wearing seat belts. State Police say charges are pending.
