(BENTON, IL) — A Benton man was injured in a two-vehicle crash on southbound I-57 in Jefferson County Thursday afternoon. Illinois State Police say around 2:35, Gary E. Jones of Benton and 24-year-old Staci A. Davis of Du Quoin were both going south at mile post 86.5 when Davis was transitioning from the left lane to the right lane after passing a semi. Jones lost control of his car while passing the same semi and struck the rear of Davis’ car. Jones continued past Davis and exited the right shoulder into the ditch. Further investigation revealed Jones was driving under the influence of alcohol. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Jones suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital as a precaution. Davis was not injured. Jones was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
