MOUNT VERNON, IL – Last week, the United Methodist Children’s Home Best Beginnings Nurse-Family Partnership program teamed up with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office to provide free car seat safety checks for local residents. Nearly 73% of child restraints are not installed or used correctly. This program is to ensure residents within the local community had an opportunity to learn more about car seat safety. Car seats were checked to see if they met required safety guidelines for the child who uses the seat, and ensure that the seat was installed properly, was not defective or out of date. New car seats were also given out to a few families in need.
