(HARRISBURG, IL) — Saline County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 56-year-old Brian Burns of Harrisburg Wednesday morning for first degree murder in connection with the disappearance of 49-year-old Carla Burns of Marion. Saline County Sheriff Keith Brown says Burns was last seen in Marion around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8. She was reported missing two days later by family and friends. A status hearing in Saline County Court was held March 10, in response to a motion filed in a divorce case in which Carla Burns was the plaintiff and Brian Burns the defendant. Brown says this is an active investigation conducted by the sheriff’s office along with Marion Police, Illinois State Police, the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, Saline County Coroner’s Office, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services as well as other agencies. More information is expected to be released during a formal press conference Friday morning at 10 at the Saline County Detention Center in Harrisburg.
