(SALEM, IL) — A 37-year-old Centralia woman is in the Marion County Jail after she struck a house and a garage in Central City while fleeing a traffic stop Saturday night in Sandoval. According to State police, a string of events started when Sandoval police attempted a traffic stop on Christine Williams around 7:30 Saturday night and she instead allegedly fled southbound on U.S. Highway 51 into Central City where her vehicle struck a home in the 400 block of North Broadway, continued southbound, destroyed a fence and struck a garage across the street from the home. Williams’ car was totaled after rolling onto its top and them back onto its wheels. The extent of damages to the home and garage are still unknown. ISP troopers say Williams attempted to flee the scene in Central City on foot but was apprehended at the scene. She was initially taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia for treatment but was ultimately transported to the Marion County Jail. No other injuries were reported. She was arrested for alleged driving under the influence of drugs, driving while license suspended, possession of drug paraphernalia, speeding 95 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone, reckless driving, aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer. She was also ticketed for improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, operation of a vehicle when registration is suspended, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, failure to wear a seat belt, and disobeying a traffic control device. According to ISP, other criminal charges are pending.
