Carmi, IL – The Illinois State Police (ISP) announced the results of a Roadside Safety Check (RSC) held during the late evening hours of Saturday, 04/25/15, and early morning hours of Sunday, 04/26/15. The detail was conducted at Illinois Route 15 and Market Avenue in Fairfield / Wayne County by ISP District 19 officers. Alcohol is involved in nearly 40 percent of fatal crashes in Illinois. RSCs are designed to remove alcohol-impaired drivers, however, when other violations are observed such as driving with a suspended or revoked license, operating a vehicle without a valid registration or valid proof of insurance, or safety belt violations, enforcement action may be taken. A total of 156 vehicles were checked and the following citations were issued at the Roadside Safety Check. Authorities issued 20 citations or arrests and 36 total written warnings, including 11 registration offenses, 2 occupant restraint offenses, a DUI arrest, and 4 other alcohol or drug arrests. There were no driver’s license offenses in this safety check. This project was funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Transportation Safety.
