(BENTON, IL) — It seems rumors have been circulating that the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center in Benton is going to close due to budget concerns. WSIL-TV reports employees and supervisors from the juvenile detention center showed up Monday night for a county finance committee meeting to address the rumors. Board Chairman Randall Crocker told them the board is working to find the money to keep the center open, but didn’t make any guarantees. Crocker says under state law, he has to keep the sheriff’s office open, but it doesn’t require to keep the juvenile detention center open. Crocker told those at the meeting the county is expected to have a proposed budget by Nov. 15. The county budget must be passed by Nov. 30.
