Karen “Susie” Sue Helt, 82, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 9:50 am July 1, 2021 at her residence in Mount Vernon. She was born December 15, 1938 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Bearl Elwood and Geraldine Ione (Moore) Galiher. Susie married Larry Jon Helt on September 2, 1961 in Mount Vernon, Illinois. They were blessed with twenty-five years of marriage before he preceded her in death on October 27, 1986.

Susie is survived by her sister, Penny Galiher of Mount Vernon, Illinois; nephews, Matthew LaRue and wife, Jen of Arlington Heights, Illinois, Joe LaRue of Park Ridge, Illinois, Blake LaRue and wife, Shannon of Tacoma, Washington; sister-in-law, Sheri Allen and husband, Dennis of Ohio; great-nephews, Alexander and Ethan LaRue;  and great-nieces, Kate and Stella LaRue.

In addition to her parents and husband, Susie was preceded in death by her son, Lee J. Helt.

Susie was a member of Jefferson County Historical Society and the AMVETS. She was of the Baptist faith and will be dearly missed.

A Visitation will be held Thursday, July 15, 2021 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 7:00 pm with Reverend Bill Causer officiating. Inurnment will held at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Susie’s honor to American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, Angels on Assignment, and Jefferson County Humane Society.
