David A. Raney, 70, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away after a two year battle with cancer at 12:44 am April 20, 2021 at his home. He was born December 2, 1950 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Arthur “Babe” Raney and Loretta (Hefley) Raney. David is survived by his children, Gena Sue Kerosetz and husband, Jay of Tega-Cay, South Carolina and Bart A. Raney and fiancée, Sara Hall of Woodlawn, Illinois; three grandsons, Justin Kerosetz, Logan Raney, and Levi Raney; two sisters, Janet Raney Maier of Burbank, California and Nancy Raney Deaton of Mount Vernon, Illinois; three brothers, Steve Raney and wife, Paula of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Rob Raney and wife, Becky of Jackson, Missouri, and Tim Raney and wife, Mary of Mount Vernon, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his grandparents; brothers, James “Jimbo” Michael Raney and Ricky “Rick” Lee Raney; and brother-in-law, Tom Deaton. David worked as a supervisor for Continental Tire before retiring. He loved fishing and was a member of the Mount Vernon Elks (B.P.O.E.) Lodge 819. David was an extremely good athlete who enjoyed playing baseball and golf, and at one time was invited by scouts to play professional baseball. During his college career at Rend Lake College he served as the assistant baseball coach. A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Reverend Randy Hayes officiating. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in David’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Please remember to observe social distancing at this time.
