Donald G. Bond, 75, of Buchanan, Tennessee, formerly of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 11:40 am March 25, 2021 at his residence. He was born January 16, 1946 in Mount Vernon to the late Lester and Gladys (Hopkins) Bond. Donald married Janice “Jan” (Willoughby) Bond on February 28, 1969 at Aloma Baptist Church in Winter Park, Florida. They were blessed with 52 years of marriage.

In addition to his beloved wife, Don is survived by his sons, Christopher Bond and special friend, Billie Hodges of Mount Vernon and Zachery Bond of Richmond Heights, Missouri; grandchildren, Christopher Harley Bond and Alysandra Sunshine Bond; uncle, Floyd Hale; best friend, Mary McMahon; and his cherished dogs, Zeuss and Stella Blue.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his aunt, Dorothy Hale; and his loving pup, Rocky.

Don proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a dedicated firefighter and retired from the Mount Vernon City Fire Department at the rank of Captain, after previously serving for the Jefferson County Fire Department. Don was a past officer at the Mount Vernon Elks and was an Exalted Ruler. He was a faithful Christian and served on the media and security team at Central Christian Church in Mount Vernon and Tennessee Valley Community Church in Paris, Tennessee. In his spare time, Don was a substitute teacher and cook at Mount Vernon Township High School. He enjoyed fishing and riding motorcycles, but most of all, Don loved the time he spent with his family. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Don will be greatly missed by his family and our community.

A Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 30, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 7:00 pm with Pastor Jamie Allen officiating. Following the service, military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #141. Memorials may be made in Don’s honor to the Bond family, in care of Jan Bond.
