Rev. Clifford D. Burney, 83, of Mt. Vernon and formerly of Wayne City, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2018 at his home in Mt. Vernon.

Rev. Burney was born on January 19, 1935, in Oklahoma City, to Frederick Elias and Cordia (Keck) Burney.

On November 27, 1953 at the Wayne City Baptist Church he married Mary McCord, and she survives in Mt. Vernon.

He graduated from Wayne City High School in 1953, and later graduated from Southwestern Seminary School. He served as minister for several area churches.

In addition to his wife, Mary Burney of Mt. Vernon; he is also survived by two sons, Derrell Burney and wife Anita of Dix, and Bradley Burney of Mt. Vernon; three granddaughters, Nena Rightnowar and husband Garry of Bluford, Candice Richardson and husband David of Mt. Vernon, and Monica Burney of Dix; and two great grandsons, Walker Rightnowar of Bluford and Malcolm Richardson of Mt. Vernon. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Charlotte Campbell; and a grandson, Dallas Burney.

Graveside services will be at 11 am, Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City, with Rev. Bill Miller officiating . Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix.  In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to Keenes Baptist Church or the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, and will be received at the service or mailed to Osborn Funeral Home, P.O.
