Billie Rex Riley, 91, of Dix, passed away at 12:20 a.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at Countryside Residential Living Center in Mt. Vernon.

He was born September 29, 1926, in Kell, the son of John Carl and Nora D. (Hawkins) Riley.  On June 21, 1947, in Mayfield, Kentucky, he married Ruth Ann Gatewood, and she preceded him in death on August 28, 1992.  He later married June Stringer, on September 6, 1993, and she survives in Dix.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, stationed in Okinawa, Japan, as a Control Tower Operator.  He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and was a self-employed mechanic.  He was a member of Rome Masonic Lodge #721 AF & AM, in Dix.

Mr. Riley is survived by his wife, June Riley of Dix; one son, Dennis Riley and wife Ruth Ann of Senatobia, Mississippi;  two daughters, Connie White and husband Jerry of Lake Jackson, Texas, and Becky Garwood and husband Larry of Benton;  seven grandchildren, Monica Maxey, Celeste Brumbaugh, Tammy Riley, Abigaile Artly, Robin Lucin, Dennis Riley, Jr., and Derek Riley;  six great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Brumbaugh, Isabella Brumbaugh, Damon Wright, Emma Maxey, Claire Artly, and Robbie Riley;  one great-great-grandchild, Jayden Travous;  two step-children, Jerry Stringer and wife Nancy, and Juva Wynn and husband Mack;  several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren;  one brother, Harry Riley of Effingham;  one sister, Mary Ann Beal and husband Wayne of Dix;  and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth Ann Riley; one son, Larry Riley;  brothers, James Riley, Floyd Riley, John Riley, Jr., and Oscar Riley;  and sisters, Dorothy McBride, Aline Tate, Betty McCoy, and Nellis Smith.
