The Murphysboro City Council Tuesday night voted 6 to 1 to allow hair salon and spa owners to sell beer and wine to their customers if they apply and get a new liquor license from the city.

According to the Southern Illinoisan, the city amended the city ordinance on liquor licensing, creating a special S license, which will cost $525 a year.

The ordinance says beer or wine can only be sold to people who are currently receiving services, at that time, from the establishments. Sales can only be made from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Mike Davis, owner of The Art of Hair, made the request for the change. He requested the license from the council at its last meeting.
