(MT. VERNON, IL) — A second suspect, formally charged with first degree murder in a fatal shooting from January 20th in Mt. Vernon, has been apprehended in St. Louis. John Wells was taken into custody Wednesday night and transferred to the Jefferson County Justice Center where he has been formally charged with the first degree murder in connection to the shooting that took the life of DeAndray Jackson. Last week, 18 year old Lekedrieon Russell was taken into custody on a first degree murder charge. Two other arrests have also been made related to the shooting, including 21-year-old Dantrez Brown and a 17-year-old youth who are both charged with obstructing justice. Wells’ bond is set at $3 million. If convicted, Wells is eligible for an extended prison term because a firearm was used in the commission of the alleged crime. This extension would result in a term of 25 years to natural life being added to the sentence.
