MOUNT VERNON — Harold D. Boyd, 89, of Mt. Vernon, went to be with the Lord at 9:00 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Nature Trail Health Care Center, in Mt. Vernon.

He was born September 29, 1934, in Union County, the son of Orin D. and Nina (McLane) Boyd.  He married Diana Morris on August 23, 1969, and she survives.

Harold worked with his family on the J.J. Boyd and Sons fruit farm, near Jonesboro, through high school.  He was a 1957 graduate of Southern Illinois University, and served in the United States Army from 1957-1959, as a Nike Missile Internal Guidance repairman, at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico.  Following military service, he worked as a tool design engineer for Sangamo Electric Company in Marion, and plant engineer at Uniroyal and American Latex Corporation, both in Indiana.  He was also Vice President and part owner of Venetian Marble Company, of Olathe, Kansas, and maintenance director of Nature Trail Nursing Home in Mt. Vernon.  He also worked many years in the electrical wholesale business in and around Mt. Vernon.

He had many hobbies, but spent most of his spare time helping others, fishing with his wife, and wood carving.  He loved his family and the Lord.  When he worked in Indiana, he helped start Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher.  At the time of his death, he was a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church and taught an adult Sunday school class.

In addition to his wife, Diana Boyd, he is survived by one daughter, Lori Boyd of Dix; son, John Boyd of Dix; and one sister, Anita Ord of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Charles Ord.

Funeral services for Mr. Boyd will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix, with Bob Burton officiating.  Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until the hour of service, at the funeral home.  A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.  Memorial gifts may be made to the Jefferson County Animal Control or Park Avenue Baptist Church, and will be accepted by mail to the Osborn Funeral Home, P.O.
