CARBONDALE — Carbondale police have arrested a 31-year-old woman on suspicion of shooting her husband early Tuesday morning.

According to police, they responded around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday to the 400 block of North Beadle Drive for a report of a shooting.

Officers found the victim suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound.  Carbondale Officers and Jackson County Paramedics provided immediate life-saving medical care before the victim was transported by ambulance for continued treatment.  The victim is currently in critical condition.

Officers found the suspect, identified as Evetta Hughes at the scene. The victim and Hughes are married.

The investigation revealed it was an isolated domestic incident between the involved parties.

Detectives charged Hughes with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and Aggravated Domestic Battery and she was transported to the Jackson County Jail. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
