MACOMB, Ill. — A four-year-old boy and a 57-year-old man who held the child at knifepoint were killed in an officer-involved shooting in Macomb.

The Macomb Police Department responded to a domestic violence call Saturday night near the Western Illinois University campus when they saw a man with a knife.

Police say the man ducked out of view of officers and came back into view holding the knife around the child’s throat.

Investigators said the officer fired one shot and both the man and child suffered fatal gunshot injuries.
