CENTRAL CITY — A 38-year-old Centralia man is heading back to prison after he was allegedly found with a large amount of methamphetamine during a traffic stop Wednesday night.

According to Central City Police Chief Jamie Ramsey, Jeffrey Kirkman was stopped for speeding Wednesday night and since he was on parole, the officer conducted a search of the vehicle.

That search reportedly revealed two baggies containing meth that combined equaled 50 grams. Chief Ramsey says packaging for distribution was also present in the vehicle.

As Kirkman was on parole at the time, IDOC was contacted and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Ramsey says Kirkman’s parole has been revoked and he’ll be returned to prison where he’ll await trial on the latest charges.

He was formally charged Thursday in Marion County Court with Class X felony delivery of between 15 and 100 grams of meth, Class 1 felony possession of between 15 and 100 grams of meth, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He’s due back in court April 2 for a preliminary hearing on the charges.

Kirkman was convicted in 2021 in Marion County on a meth possession charge and in 2020 in Clinton County for burglary and possession of burglary tools.
