CENTRALIA, IL — Two male subjects were arrested Sunday in connection with burglaries early that morning.

According to CPD’s acting Police Chief Steve Writenour, around 1:21 a.m., they received an alarm from Buchheit’s at 1340 West McCord Street of a burglary and responding officers reported finding a side door smashed open.

The K9 unit from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office and Central City Police assisted CPD in searching the store but no one was found inside.

Buchheit’s manager said at the time it didn’t appear anything was taken from the store.

Surveillance video from the store reportedly showed two young black males were suspects.

On their way back from Buchheit’s, Central City police noticed two young black males matching the description in the Buchheit’s surveillance walking in the middle of North Elm Street, with one carrying a large duffle bag.

The officers also noticed the front door of TK’s CBD Connection at 224 North Elm Street had been smashed and stopped to investigate.

TK’s owner, Kelly Fox, reported a .9 mm handgun and several items were missing from the store. Surveillance video there reportedly showed what appeared to be the same two young black males as the suspects.

Writenour says Centralia patrol officers developed information that someone was selling CBD products at Laura Leake Park and went to investigate.

He says they discovered a 15-year-old male in the park with items believed taken from TK’s and 18-year-old Demonte Agnew was allegedly found a short distance away with the firearm taken from the store.
