MT. VERNON, IL — The City of Mt. Vernon is seeking public input to update their Comprehensive Plan during several community listening sessions over the next two months. The data collected in these listening sessions will enable to the City to put a plan in place that is based upon the needs straight from the mouths of those in the community.

City Manager Mary Ellen Bechtel says this planning is a roadmap for the direction the community would like to go.

The current version of the Comprehensive Plan was created in 2009 and reviewed in 2019. Many components of this plan have been completed or are ongoing projects while the direction or scope for some of the goals has changed.

City Councilman Donte Moore says the things asked for in these listening sessions creates a paper trail for the city to get future funding.

A copy of the Comprehensive Plan for the City of Mt. Vernon can be downloaded at mtvernon.com/transparency.

Listening sessions will be held at the Rolland Lewis Community Building in Veteran’s Park on Saturday, February 5th at 9 a.m., later that day at 1p.m. at Meadowbrook Christian Church. Another listening session at the Community Building will take place on Tuesday, February 8th at 6p.m. Residents with input on the planning for the next ten years of growth for the City of Mt. Vernon are invited to attend any session.
