FAYETTE COUNTY, IL — A Fairview Heights woman is facing multiple felony charges following her allegedly not stopping and placing a Fayette County officer in danger during the attempted traffic stop this past weekend on Interstate 70 in Fayette County. 33-year-old Samantha A. Smith is charged with Aggravated Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Police Officer, which is a Class 4 Felony.  

Information on the charge states that Smith, “who have been given a visual signal or flashing lights and/or audible siren, did willfully fail and refuse to obey such direction and exceeded the speed limit by 21 miles per hour or more.” The second charge is Aggravate Assault with a Motor Vehicle, which is also a Class 4 Felony. Law enforcement officials say that Smith, without justification, operated a motor vehicle in a manner which placed Sergeant Brock Rich in reasonable apprehension of being struck by the moving motor vehicle.”  

During an appearance in Fayette County Court, Smith had bond set at $25,000.  She will hire counsel and make a court appearance on January 3rd.
