Linda Darnell Capps Clark was born January 25, 1945 in Mount Vernon, Illinois a daughter of John E. and Edna Cates Capps.

She married Dr. Kenneth E. Clark in Mount Vernon on February 14, 1991.Before retiring she worked thirty-two years as a secretary and later as bookkeeper for Mount Vernon City Schools District 80.She was a member of Central Christian Church where she was a part of the teaching team in the Open Door Class.

She loved her church and her Sunday school class and counted it a privilege to teach. In earlier years she sang at many area churches with the Pioneers Quartet and the Singing Son Rays.

She was an organizing member of the Old Goshen Trail Chapter, National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution as well as the General John A. Logan Chapter, National Society of Daughters of the Union 1861-1865.

She served a number of years as registrar for both organizations. She was an avid genealogical researcher and it was her great joy to help others prove their lineage to a patriot.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by nieces, Theresa Ellis Lemmon and husband, Jerry of Tullahoma, Tennessee, Toni Ellis Hicks and husband, Greg of Mount Vernon, Cheryl Capps Fleetwood of Lumberton, Texas, Janice Capps Hatfield and husband, Gary of Mulkeytown; nephews, John Ellis and wife, Lisa of Mount Vernon and Douglas Capps of Woodlawn; step son, Kenny Clark and wife, Melinda; step grandson, Nicholas of Parma, Missouri; aunt, Ginny Stephenson and husband, Charles of Marion; uncles, Ed Cates and wife, Carolyn of Anna, Homer Cates of Fayetteville, North Carolina; special friend and prayer buddy, Sue McPherson and husband, Carl.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John Robert Capps; sister, Beatrice Marian Ellis; brother-in-law, Don Ellis; sister-in-law, Betty Capps.

A Graveside Service will be held Sunday, September 26, 2021 at 2:30 pm at West Salem Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Mr. J. Howard Kraps, Mr. James McKenzie, and Mr. Rod Marlow officiating.
