Dorothy LaVonne Donoho, 90, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 8:00 pm June 3, 2021 at Mount Vernon Countryside Manor in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She was born May 20, 1931 in Romine Township, Marion County, Illinois to the late Arthur Grant and Donna (Lowry) Michael. Dorothy married William Fred Donoho on June 21, 1958 at Palestine Church in Marion County, Illinois and he preceded her in death on May 14, 1988.

Dorothy is survived by three sons, Dale Allen and wife, Kate of Knoxville, Tennessee, Gale Allen and wife, Mary of Valley Springs, California, and Art Donoho and wife, Dr. Miriam Chang of Kaneohe, Hawaii; two daughters, Saundra Lipe and husband, Jimmy of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Cathy Faas and husband, Mark of Prattville, Alabama; five grandchildren, Karl Allen of Knoxville, Tennessee, Kurt Allen of Green River, Wyoming, Robin Foley of Mount Vernon, Indiana, Zach Wood of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and Tony Wood and wife, Brittany of Mount Vernon, Illinois; seven great-grandchildren, James, Nora, and Kacey Allen of Knoxville, Tennessee, Victoria Evans and husband, Jesse and William Allen of Green River, Wyoming, Adam Combs of Coral Gables, Florida, and Ashley Yager and husband, Wesley of Norris City, Illinois; four great-great-grandchildren, Hailei and Sydney Yager and Jaxon Combs, and Bri Whetstone of Eldorado, Illinois; two brothers, Glen Michael and wife, Lena of Kell, Illinois and Kenneth Michael of Centralia, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her grandson, Patrick Allen; daughter-in-law, Alice Allen; one niece; and one nephew.

Dorothy worked as a Registered Nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital for forty years, retiring in 1997.  After working for Good Samaritan she became a traveling nurse, working in Kentucky, Arizona, Texas, and Missouri.  She volunteered for the Good Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary for thirteen years after retiring.  Dorothy also taught Nursing Aid classes at Rend Lake College for a number of years.  She loved to embroider quilts and travel.  She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon.  Dorothy is dearly loved by her family and friends and will be missed by all who knew her.

A Visitation will be held Sunday, June 6, 2021 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 3:00 pm at the funeral home with Reverend Bud Storey officiating. Interment will take place at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois the following day. Memorials may be made in Dorothy’s honor to Angels on Assignment.
