MT. VERNON, IL — The Daughters of the American Revolution Old Goshen Trail Chapter in Mt. Vernon have awarded separate $1,000 scholarships to a couple of Jefferson County seniors.

DAR is passionate about educating America’s youth and does so in many ways. Over 25 different scholarships are offered by the National Society, and eight $1,000 scholarships are administered through the Illinois State Organization. Chapter Chairman Susan Wurth was successful in bringing two of those eight scholarships to this area and awarding them to Lauren Berry, a 2021 graduate of Mt. Vernon Township High School as well as Jayla Scott is a graduate of Wayne City High School and Frontier Community College. Lauren and Jayla were honored at a meeting of the Old Goshen Trail Chapter held in the one room school at the Jefferson County Historical Society. Berry plans to obtain an associate degree from Rend Lake College and then go on to a university to major in business. Scott says she will be attending Southern Illinois University.
