Shirley Faye Kite, 76, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 12:04 pm April 20, 2021 at her home. She was born May 21, 1944 in Belle Rive, Illinois to the late Arthur McKay and Ora (Sink) Vaughn. Shirley married Charles Kite on October 9, 1965 in Mount Vernon, Illinois.

Shirley is survived by her niece, Diane Lentz of Mount Vernon, Illinois; nephew, Stan York and wife, Diana of Henning, Tennessee; brother-in-law, Larry Kite and wife, Anita of Wheaton, Illinois; and several cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents and beloved husband of forty-seven years, Shirley was preceded in death by her stepfather, Claude Vaughn and sisters, Pauline McKay and Margaret York.

Shirley worked as an accountant for Tri-County for many years until her retirement and also owned and operated the Dairy Queen in Mount Vernon alongside her husband.  She was of the Christian faith, is dearly loved, and will be missed by all who knew her.

A Visitation will be held Friday, April 23, 2021 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Reverend Merle Fullerton officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Shirley’s honor to the American Kidney Association.
