SALEM, IL — Employees of Schutt Sports in Salem have been notified that the plant will be closing and moving out of Illinois to Indiana in stages throughout this year. According to a two-page letter provided to employees, the move will start this spring and continue possibly into the fourth quarter of 2021.
Many employees of the Salem and Litchfield plants in Illinois will be invited relocate to Plainfield, a town of 35,000 near Indianapolis, Indiana. For those deciding to move with the company, they will be given a relocation package. For those employees who don’t make the move, there may be opportunities to work from home. Employees who are not offered the opportunity to move or work remotely will have 60-day notice before termination of their employment. If they remain the entire 60 day notice period, they would be eligible for a standard severance package, as well as unemployment compensation and benefits, including COBRA medical benefits for a limited time.
It has been reported in the past that the Salem plant had somewhere around 150 total employees on staff.
