MT. VERNON, IL — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Mt. Vernon Police Department arrested three Mt. Vernon residents on drug charges Thursday morning at a local motel. A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy and officers from the MVPD made contact with 31-year-old Donald G. Cook, 35-year-old Nicholas E. Decker, and 24-year-old Lesa M. Oliver while they were inside of a vehicle in the Motel 6 parking lot on South 44th St.

During the course of their investigation the officers located currency, heroin and methamphetamine. Members of the Mt Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department/Southern Illinois Drug Task Force responded to assist the officers in the arrests of Cook and Decker for Possession of Under 5 grams of Meth.

While Oliver was taken into custody for Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe/Needle and Possession of Heroin.

As a result of this contact members of the narcotics unit secured a search warrant for a room believed to be used by the three suspects at the motel. Detectives would locate additional quantities of methamphetamine and heroin during a search of this room.

Additional charges may be pending and bond on all 3 subjects arrested is to be set.
