George Alexander Bean, 79, of Waltonville, Illinois, passed away at 11:00 pm January 2, 2021 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. He was born March 1, 1941 at his home in Waltonville, Illinois to the late Adam Alexander and Mary Ann (Osborn) Bean. George married Karen Sue (Imig) Bean on June 10, 1961 in Marcoe Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois and she survives in Waltonville.

In addition to his beloved wife of nearly sixty years, George is survived by two sons, Gregory (Tina) Bean of Effingham and Anthony (Christine Kress) Bean of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin; two grandchildren, Austin Bean of San Mateo, California and Karissa Bean of Effingham; sister, Rosemary Faulkner of Waltonville; and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his sisters, Betty (Louis) Knox and Sylvia (Bill) Shelton and brother-in-law, James Faulkner. George worked as an inspector at General Radiator for almost thirty years before it closed and then worked in sales on the road for several different companies.  He enjoyed music, especially singing and playing guitar.  He spent many years  farming and enjoyed gardening.  One of his greatest passions was fishing.  He was an expert bass and crappie fisherman.  George’s greatest joy was being a father and grandfather.  He is loved deeply and will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.

A Public Walk-Through without the family present will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2021 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois.

A Private Funeral Service will follow. A Public Graveside Service will take place at 2:30 pm at Rightnowar Cemetery in Waltonville, Illinois. Memorials may be made in George’s honor to Rightnowar Cemetery or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.Please remember to observe social distancing at this time. We are limited to 10 people in our building at a time. Following the CDC and NFDA regulations, we encourage everyone to wear a mask. They will be made available, upon request.
